Earlier tonight I saw an M&M's commercial that featured Iron & Wine's version of "Such Great Heights." It was like a kaleidescope of M&M's set to that slow version of the Postal Service song.

Yep. Weird huh?

(Btw.......that is the song played in the movie 'Garden State' when they are in bed together...in case you are a non-Iron & Wine listener.)

HOLY COW......DID YOU JUST SEE THAT?

Ok, it's my fault b/c I didn't tell you, my lovelies, that tonight at 8pm was the NBC premiere of the movie trailer for "KING KONG."

And when I say NBC, I mean EVERYTHING the network owns. It was on NBC, MSNBC, Sci-Fi, USA, Bravo, and everything else owned by NBC-Universal. It was the first ever simultaneous roadblock. But enough about that.........how did it look????

Oh my goodness gracious me......this movie looks sooo scary, and soo entertaining. Oh man, the TRAILER had me on the edge of my bed. I think Jack Black IS going to be great as Carl Denham, I think the dinosaurs will be awesome, and, well, it'll be so sad to see that big bad ape fall.

To top it off.....the trailer ended with the classic "Ok bitch.....let's ROCK" King Kong vs. Tyrannosaurus Rex stand-off, which looked so awesome—Kong rolling around with Ann Darrow while fighting at the same time.....just sooo rocking.

What T'd me O though was when it was over I walked to the kitchen and asked my mom what she thought. She said King Kong didn't interest her and she had turned off the TV.

This is the same woman who—a mere 5 minutes earlier—had said that Martin Luther King, JR. should NOT have been part of the "Greatest Americans" list.

............yep. She said that. Annnnnnd she said that Reagan should have.

............yep. She said that, too. I was what Reagan had done and she said "Alot." And what MLK did and she said "Nothing."

...............I end with that.

When There Is Nore More Room In Hell The Dead Shall Walk The Earth....

George A. Romero has returned. The man who basically defined the 'Zombie Horror Film' Genre is back with his film "Land Of The Dead."

So......is it his so-called 'masterpiece'? Not by any means. But it is really good.

Last Fall I saw "Shaun Of The Dead" and absolutely loved it. Of course, that movie is just pure fun and is merely an homage to zombie films, with a bit of romantic comedy thrown in for good measure. After I saw it I thought 'there must be something to this' so soon after I watched George A. Romero's orginal "Dawn Of The Dead" and—though not my brand of bitter—I know why his films are loved by many. It was good. (last years 'remake'---NOT by George---was also good, but only if you've seen the original.)

He masters in not only gross-out and highly realistic gore, but in throwing humor into a situation of worldwide chaos. Just the idea of living dead walking around and trying to perform mundane actions they did daily while alive can be rather funny. The whole point of "Dawn" was that people just wander around malls.....it's what they've done, have been conditioned to do.....and will do for the rest of their [non]lives.

There's also something a little humorous about the idea that once they've re-established a thriving community once again, living people will eventually take pleasure in just 'taking out' zombies as target practice or merely a way of ensuring survival. Primal Instinct or some crap like that.

So yes.....I was disturbed by things (mostly involving Army-type people being killed in non-zombie ways like grenades) but that's just the way it is. 90 minutes of escapism. (Although I'm glad I didn't go to "Bewitched" instead.)

It was actually a bit short.....I kinda wanted more. At this point I would give a vague plot description or some form of my twisted view.....but there's not really much there. People have walled up a city to keep out the xombies.....xombies begin to learn how to communicate and work together.....people get greedy and lead to their own demise.....and xombies eat lots of people.

So if I gave movies ratings these days, it would get a positive one. But I don't so I won't. Instead....just so I'm not misunderstood I'll say that I liked it.

Take that for what it's worth.

If not....see "Shark Boy and Lava Girl".....it's in 3D ANNNNNDDD it's by the same guy who made "Sin City." How's THAT for twisted?

Too Urgent NOT To Post About......

I just receieved—today—4 DVDs.

"What were they?" Let me tell you:

The Star Wars Trilogy Definitive Collection. Yes......All three Star Wars movies.......as they were released on LaserDisc in '97. That means.......preserved as they were before they were tampered with. Yes......the Original Hebrew Text of the movies as opposed to the New King James Versions.

And what was the 4th disc?

"Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith"

......uh huh.

(The 2 biggest problems: ROTS is scrunched down from widescreen, so everyone looks tall and skinny.....and there is a timecode on screen. But, still.)

I will treasure these DVDs, and you will too, I hope. —At this time I will admit that I believe "Empire Strikes Back" is the only of the Trilogy to actually BENEFIT from the Special Editions. Nothing major was touched....and what was added was actually cool (i.e. the Wampa and Cloud City backgrounds)

Mad As Heck And I'm Not Going To Take It Anymore.....

....And by "Not" I mean "Most Likely Will".

I'm Angry. Why am I angry? I'm angry b/c I lost something. I'm angry b/c I never lose anything. I take good care of all of my possessions; I always have—since I was little. I could never understand the kids that would bash/blow up their action figures. I mean...I would take mine outside, play with them in the mud, play with them in the bath, but NEVER dismember or harm them. (I would only take apart G.I. Joes to fix that rubber band that held their legs on.)

I've lost 2 things lately; the reason I'm mad is b/c I think they were stolen. And I don't randomly blame lost things on theft...b/c I rarely lose things and it seems that these were in fact stolen. Ok, before I become too redundant I'll explain:

Item #1: CD labels. Yes, not important, but serious b/c, well.....HOW COULD YOU LOSE CD LABELS? Actually, these were the CD core (the tiny ones) labels. Annnd.....they were in a drawer. At work. So, how could they have not been stolen. What's worse is.....why would anyone who may have taken them have a use for them?

Item #2: A USB Thumb Drive. Yes...important. I spent good money on that thing, and now it's gone. It had my initials on the back. The last time I remember having it was at work: I was showing someone a video of George W. Bush flipping off the camera before a TV Address. So that's when I had it. Annnd.....it was in a drawer. At work. So, how could it have not been stolen. What's worse is.....why would anyone who may have taken it have a use for it?

So there.

---------------

Also......Am I a 'Mac Guy'?

You see....my comp has gone kaspluey. So if I can't figure out what's wrong..(call me if you want to/can help)...it's time for a new PC. But....I think Bill Gates can lick my undercarriage.

So...I'm thinking of testing the waters a bit: "What If I bought a Mac?"

Am I cool enough for a Mac? You have to admit, Macs are pretty darn cool. They look good, and cool people have them.

Do I know how to work a Mac? The only experience I've had was at college, whether in my Web Design or TV Production classes, or in the library. The major problem was these seemed a little screwy...but I blame that on the fact they were PUBLIC comps, and lots and lots of people used them. Also, I'm all about custimization. I want it to look the way I want. I don't want my desktop to be a photo of a mountain range. I like basic gray. And....I hate icons. I will admit that currently my PC desktop is solid gray......with Marvin The Paranoid Android in the corner pointing at "My Computer" and "Recycle Bin"...but that just looks cool. How customizable are Macs? Oh oh oh, and I really hate not having 'right click.' But I would look forward to shortcuts. I would love to just hit 'Apple + J' to just do everything.

What about the software I like? I just wonder if I will be able to use the software essential to my life right now. I can do basic internet browsing and things..but what about my music? What about my video editing? I know Photoshop and Premiere will work on Macs....but I have to get separate software just for Macs, or will that install automatically?

For life or to 'just get by'? You know, after all this, I do think it's possible to either get an iBook or even the less expensive eMac to just use for things like the internet. I mean, face it: Macs are expensive. 2 to 3 times what I could get a decent WalMart PC for. So.....I would either invest alot of money in something that may be useful for me...or just the same amount until I got used to it.

How would it fit my setup? Oh yeah....I have a nice Computer Desk....it's lovely. Something like an eMac or iMac would look lovely sitting on top.....but what about the wasted 'tower unit cabinet'? I mean...if I got a G4 that would go in there, obviously.....so that means one day a PC may have to fill that space.

It's mostly used for design. Well..that's true. You always see anyone involved in doing Photoshop, Quark, DreamWeaver, or any video editing using a Mac. Well....that should tell me right there.

Crap........I got lots of thinking to do.

I'm Not Saying That, But.........

Ok, if you are immune to opinions and don't let them influence your own....then read on. If you like superhero movies in general and want to hear a positive review...the read on. If you think Batman can kick anyone's butt any day....then read on. If you like movies by Christopher Nolan—"Memento" and "Insomnia" are two...then read on. If you think movies are not over until the credits are through.....then read on.

This might be a stretch—and please don't think I'm dissing Tim Burton—but I think "Batman Begins" is the best Batman movie made so far.

Yep...I said it. I saw it today and I was blown away. Let me tell you what happened:

You are thrown right into things with a stately Young Bruce Wayne, not at Stately Wayne Manor.....but instead in some prison in Asia. Kinda weird..but you understand later that he's there learning the 'ways' of criminals; Not actually committing crimes. Well, he's visited in jail by QuiGon Jinn.....who apparently did not die at the LightSaber of Darth Maul but instead became head of a secret clan of ninjas who take it upon themselves to rid the world of crime (or, if you think of it in Jedi terms: to maintain peace in the galaxy). So QuiGon, a.k.a. Alfred Kinsey (or for you non-cinephiles "Liam Neeson") guides Bruce to their hideout and there is some ninja stuff. (I think The Shredder studied here, too.)

Well, after a few years Bruce decides to return home (oh, by the way.....his parents were killed when he was a kid—in case you didn't know that part of the story [although every incarnation of the story has a different person kill them....either The Joker or just some thug]) and help Gotham City with all it's problems.

With the help of Mississippi's own playboy Morgan Freeman, Bruce puts together his arsenal of BatSuits and BatGuns and BatWhatsits. He's ready to kick some butt and take some names.

Once it seems like Batman has stopped the bad guy and all is well...you realize he just stopped someone working UNDER the bigger bad guy and there's more action and fun. Oh, and Commissioner Gordon makes his appearance as an out-of-place yet very good Gary Oldman. Man, this movie is just packed with star power!

The basic theme of this film is overcoming your fears for the good of others. Like any good SuperHero movie it's very human and works better on a character-driven level. That bit didn't exactly work for Hulk, though.

Ok, one thing that you would think I would have a problem with would be story continuity and coherence. No no no, this one worked fine....I'm talking about between the 5 Batman movies. B/c this was 'Batman Begins', they were able to re-work things and retool the Batman franchise. Basically nothing in this one coincided with the other films (George Lucas would freak out, huh?!) but instead set a new tone. The Joker didn't kill the Waynes, Batman didn't make his first appearance as a 40-year-old Michael Keaton, Wayne Manor was rebuilt after it burned down, and The Joker was already doing his dirty deeds when Bruce became Batman (hint hint: wait till the end of the film). I don't know the true comic book/original story of Batman but I know what I've seen in the films and I know what I like.

Christopher Nolan is not an action director.....he directs more independent-type films. However, he did a fantastic job!

(Actually, I technically didn't see the movie b/c we had to leave before the credits were over.......dammit, now I have to go see it again.)

So, if you care at all about Batman and the Batman franchise........just forget you ever heard of Joel Shumacher and embrace ......well, I guess 'the beginning?' Anyway......Batman Begins.

It Takes A Dad To Be A Man....

Ok....."The Color Purple" has moved to my 'movies that make me cry like a fat little girl' list. This joins "Big Fish", "Follow That Bird", parts of all 3 "LOTR" movies and "Masters Of The Universe" (although...that one makes me cry for a different reason) as well as many others but I can't name right now.

Ok Mr. Spielberg.....let's see you try to impress us with your crappy little 'War of the Worlds' thingy.

I actually saw this movie in Mrs. Irby's class in high school, but didn't get the effect b/c it was, you know, in school. In this movie you literally laugh and cry all within the same minute. Something very touching is followed with a gag or vice versa....it's like a roller coaster ride for the soul. Oh, and Oprah Winfrey is probably one of the best characters in movie history (all in my opinion, of course).

Still don't understand the 'half the movie on one side.....flip over to see the rest' thing. I mean, what, this isn't a laserdisc for crying out loud—compression technology has come a long way.

----------------

Things I expect of the new Batman Movie:

--Elliot Goldenthall's score. The theme was in all four recent Batman movies....the franchise just changed directors, not everything else. I mean, even Alfred and Commissioner Gordon were the same in all 4.......besides the music is great.

--I the toy section at WalMart I saw a 'Batman Ninja Sword' set. WTF??? Has 'Kill Bill' influenced Batman? Whoever uses the sword for whatever reason HAD BETTER BE WORTH IT. To me...Batman does NOT equal Ninjas.

--No Batsuit Batnipples.

--2 of the last 4 Batman movies had the dreaded 'parents getting killed' scene. I mean, that part of the story is soooo old news....it's basically like a movie preview that only shows the funny parts. There's no new territory to cover here. Let's just move on and get to the action. Let's not beat a dead horse.

--He must 'bump into' at least one (1) future nemesis. A young Harvey (TwoFace) Dent, a busty young.....er, whatever CatWoman's name was, a young Joker, etc., you get the point.

Call me if you want to go Saturday.

Steal Of The Century....

Ok, so I was in WalMart Sunday and I just decided to browse down the furniture aisles to check stuff out, and they happened to be next to the photo frame aisle. Well, lo and behold, for the first time ever I see a poster frame for a 27" X 40" poster (standard 'theatrical movie' poster size; not your pussy mini-poster that you buy from those flip things at Spencers)! Well.....this is just PERFECT b/c I had my MST3K poster and my Kill Bill poster that I wanted framed to match my Magnolia poster. Well, the sad thing is I was actually planning to carry them to a frame shop in Pontotoc this Tuesday to get them done. Well, as it turns out I probably just saved myself about $150.....b/c these things at WalMart cost me $18 and change! Yep.....wouldv'e been about $70 per poster at a frame shop. And......I just wanted a basic black frame. These are just black plastic.....really set off the posters nicely. I'm soo stoked.

-----

While I was in Tupelo....I was alone so I came within mere minutes/inches of going ahead and buying a projector. You have no idea how much I'm jonesing for one.

I mean....with my room situation now I can make it work so that I can have an entire wall if I want. Basically...just however much it will display at 13' back (that's how long my room is...roughly).

The only problem I can forsee is where to display it; we have paneling. It's painted, mind you, but it's still paneling. So honestly that's about all that's keeping me from this. So if I figure out how to put up some kind of screen and how to paint/color it so things will show up nicely, I will be a movie watching fool. ——with a projector. Hahahah.

------

I have the Front Right Audio Channel from Episode I recorded.....I'm making a start.

Still open for suggestions; I took my last post down for a few reasons....but I'm still awaiting input from Star Wars fans with suggestions on how to recut the first prequel.

No.....

It WAS on DVD, like I said.

Just out of print now.....you just can't get it any cheaper than $30 from Amazon. And you can't get the MST3K Movie for less than $80 on eBay, b/c it's rare and a collectors' item.

Geez.......clean the crap out of your ears and listen better.

You Know.......

That was pretty mean......sorry.

----------

In other news.....saw Iron & Wine at Proud Larry's Friday night.

The good part: Sam looked at me alot. (it can feel weird when someone on stage just looks at you while singing their songs.) Actually, I think he felt sorry for me b/c one of the guys in his band made the people on the front two rows stand up (they were sitting Indian-style) and when they did, the guy in front of me was at least an entire foot taller than me. I had to tippie-toe alot. Also, I got pissed on wine at Old Venice and Andrew kept buying beers at the show.

The bad part: I had to pee so horrendously 10 minutes before Iron & Wine even started......but the crowd was so horrendouser there was no way I could get back up front. So eventually my bladder just went numb and I cocked one leg and just shook it for 2 hours to keep my mind off it.

The moral of this story: No one ever really gives a crap, and I just felt like typing.

--------

For real......sorry about the 'clean the crap out of your ears thing.'

Some Feel Good Movies....

(Recently watched for my pleasure:)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie - Still good after all these years. God, I love being A Turtle! (I STILL think it's the most blatant attempt to make kids use bad language. ('DAMN' is just used so beautifully. "Ninja-kick the damn rabbit!")

Ghostbusters II - It can stand on it's own. It shouldn't be watched within a few months of Ghostbusters, though. --At least my mom recognized the music and knew it was Ghostbusters. When I told her it was the second one....she didn't know they made a 2nd one. I told her that she took me and my brother to see it when it came out. She must've slipped out to go see Steel Magnolias, b/c she didn't remember.-- You know, even though it was made 11 years BEFORE September 11th, 2001, it still has an eerie 'let's make New York come together' moment. Then, the very very last shot pulls up.......and there are the twin towers in the background. Kinda spooky and gave me the chills. But also made me happy b/c it's a fun movie.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark - "Asps.....very Dangerous. You go first."

Lemony Snicket's 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' - I don't plan to read the books.....but I do hope there are MORE films soon.

---------

If anyone owns/has copy of The Muppet Movie on DVD.....I would be glad to get a copy.

When DVDs first came out they made some.....and stopped. Same way with MST3K: The Movie and many other movies. Plus.....Netflix doesn't even have a copy available to send right away. I've actually got it 'saved' until it's available.

UPDATE:

(Regarding last night's post)

I called Joel Bryant today b/c he used to listen to the Smashing Pumpkins and I know he listens to SuperTalk MS.

When I told him there was a commercial with an SP song in it...he said he heard it today! So we thought it was weird.

Holy Cow......

Ok, so it's about 12:05a.m. Wednesday morning.

I just got home about 40 minutes ago and I'm doing some late night computering and internetting (a.k.a. wasting time). I'm listening to SuperTalk Mississippi 100.9, waiting for Coast To Coast AM to come on....usually about 12:07.

There is a commercial for, i think, some radiator place in the Golden Triangle. Well......it gets near the end of the ad, and suddenly I recognize the music:

It's an old, obscure Smashing Pumpkins song!

Well, not that obscure....it's actually from the soundtrack to the movie "Singles" that came out in the early '90s starring Matt Dillon and Eddie Vedder (yes....THAT Eddie Vedder) about 20-something Gen-Xers living in Seattle. (pretty dated movie, huh?)

But, still......I want to find out who did that ad and, well........meet them. They HAVE to be cool. (And lazy/poor b/c they don't have production music.)

Stolen From Bob & David.com (Go There By Clicking HERE)

THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS – They should get together with the Ya Ya Sisterhood and then fuck off.

MADAGASCAR – If I wanted to spend two hours with talking animals, I’d visit my family.

THE LONGEST YARD – Are movies getting smaller, or did Courtney Cox-Arquette’s tits get bigger?

STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH - I wasn’t bored for a minute. I was bored for 142 minutes!*

MONSTER-IN-LAW – Makes me wish I could murder a movie.

KINGDOM OF HEAVEN – Hella dull.

HOUSE OF WAX – Prey. Slay. Display. Gay.

THE INTERPRETER – Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman, together for the first waste of time!

UNLEASHED – I’d prefer to see a movie called UNHINGED, about a door that, when taken off of its hinges, goes nuts and kicks the shit out of people.

THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY – I can’t wait to check it out three months from now on a plane!

*Recycled joke from my review of HULK.

Wow......

I know this is cliche.....but every episode of Robot Chicken just gets better than the previous.

Tonight....they had "The Terror Drome"....which was a take off on "The Office." It had the theme music, and showed the Terror Drome—which is the Cobra's secret evil base. All of the heads of Cobra were characters in the 'office.' Just too funny....I never had the Terro Drome, but I had all of those bad guys and G.I. Joes.

I'm recording all of the Robot Chicken b/c I want to make my own DVD..but this one I WILL be getting if and when it comes out.

It Was The Best Of Times...It Was the Worst Of Times....

It was an age of similarities....it was an age of non-similarities.

So guess what I found out I can (possibly) do? Vegas Video 4.0 has 5.1 Surround Sound editing capabilities.

Oh...if only I had known..........Ultra Run 2 could've been 5.1. Oh well....at least now I won't feel too bad for recutting Episode I: The Phantom Menace. If this works out correctly, I can retain the cool sound......just cut out Jar Jar.

In case you are curious/interested...5.1 is set up in a way that the dialogue is mostly in the front center speaker....so this is in fact a way to actually rip dialogue from a movie without music/sound effects (I think, mostly). So, well...it could come in handy for various things I guess—if you have the time to only connect that speaker from the back of the set into something to record the audio. So no kinks are worked out yet.......more on that later.

-----------

So unless you've been not reading internet sites.....there's a new movie coming out starring Tom Cruise and is directed by Steven Spielberg. It's a little film called "War Of The Worlds," and is said to have come close to—if not being—the most expensive movie ever made.

HOWEVER.......believe it or not....but there is also another "War Of The Worlds" that was secretly shot in Britian for about $12 million and is coming out on DVD this month (probably won't come to any theaters over here). So what's the big deal about this film? It's supposed to be 100% true to the original book, and is set at turn of the century (1900, that is) Earth, what is attacked by Mars. Its claim to fame is the only H.G. Wells version ever filmed.

As of this typing....I have not found an actual review of the film. On Amazon dot com, some weirdo said he bought it at WalMart and it's sooo bad that he couldn't give it a zero b/c Amazon ratings don't go that low.

But.....who knows? Time will tell, I suppose.

haahhah.......get it? Didn't H.G. Wells also write "The Time Machine"?

I Shot A Man In Reno Just To Watch Him Die....

(Or Today's Equivalent:)

I made my dog chase a skunk just to watch him get sprayed.

----

Yeah.....our carport smells really bad now; I'm gonna wash my dog in tomato juice on Friday.

-------

Tuesday, the James Dean Complete Collection came out on DVD. Awesome. Sadly, the complete collection is only 3 movies.

Oh........www.w07bn.com is back up.......so now my pic is back in my profile. Sorry......for some reason the 'Star Wars 3 Post' made everything on the right side of the page move down to the bottom. Don't know why.

Okay.....here goes:

I am (unlike many otherthings I talk about) seriously seriously going to do MY 'Phantom Menace: The Re-Edit.'

So here's what I want from you: Assuming any of you are fans.....what do YOU want it to be like? Yep...that's right.....I'm giving YOU a say-so. That way we can share it.

Here's the deal: Back in 2001, there were 2 re-edits avaialable (I have seen neither, but have read up on them...), one which just reduced JarJar's stupid antics and cut down on the stupid Gungans (The race that Jar Jar belongs to) and little unimportant shots....and even totally got rid of the 'planet core underwater' sequence. The second re-edit actually left alot of JarJar in....but scrambled his dialogue and instead put in subtitles and basically made him a Jedi. They made him say sensible, wise things....b/c essentially he does help the basic plot and story of Episode I. They also scrambled all the other Gungans' parts...including the Boss Nass (the guy who slobbers alot).

Another main problem I'll cut out is when Anakin says things like 'whoopee!' and 'yippee!'.

Now, I haven't completely tested it, but I belive I have the ability to take each audio track and edit it individually...so hopefully it should be seamless. I will...if possible maintain the 5.1 surround. I am also going to add back at least one deleted scene that I thought was rather nice....maybe 2. (the second one includes a fight with future bounty hunter Greedo.)

So.......any suggestions? I mean...if I can scramble JarJar's voice correctly....should I give him better dialogue via subtitles, or just cut out his stupidness?

And if you've watched it lately, have you noticed anything that should be done? I realize this is a poor excuse for a StarWars film...but we can at least try to help it out.

Come on, do it for the kids.
