Double Posted From Myspace.......
Alright, I know a VERY public forum is NOT the place for this, but I gotta get it out.
So tonight I was taping the Bruce Sawmill Festival. My Aunt Marilyn came up to me and we talked for a little while--now, I call her my 'aunt' but she is of no blood relation to me......but she's really like my 3rd grandmother (b/c her and her husband--my 'Uncle' Shelton--never had grandkids and they were the 3rd set of grandparents to me and my brother growing up. Sat with them in *CHURCH* and stuff every sunday. Got it?)
Anyway, she left after that and shortly after the local black gospel group "The Mighty Gospel Warriors" took the stage. Well......they are great...and I kind of know one of the guys and the 'promoter/manager' type guy b/c they do the Black Gospel program on our TV station every 3rd Sunday. Well.....after 2 songs or so my Uncle Shelton comes up to tell me bye.....and said "We can't take much more of this [meaning the BLACK gospel music]." He asked if there was another group, and I told him a rock group from Calhoun City. He then asked (in the form of a question): ready?............
"Niggers?"
...............yeah. I kind of did a double take and had to say "Wha?" He asked IT again. Dumbfounded....I just kind of held my eyes wide open, shook my head and shrugged "uhhh, I donnnn't knowwwww."
I was sooooo embarassed. I just felt horrible that he would say that. It's like a little bit of me died inside.
Please people......let's just stop the bullshit.
Don't just try to write it off as 'They're old, it's just how they were raised.'
Just try to be decent human beings. Be respectful of other people. Love one another. It's ok to laugh at people for the kind of crappy music they listen to or the way they do their hair or if they stand a little too close when they talk.
Just try not to hate.
