So, first I'll give you an update on what I've been doing, but if that bores you then scroll down to discover my new project that I hope to get started on near the end of March.....that will be HUGE! (Well, in the undertaking, I mean)
So for that past two days I've been exorcising a few demons. You see, in 2004 I embarked on a small project called 'nurd' that I intended to put lots of work into and essentially launch a career in filmmaking/storytelling. But we all know that I'm not the least bit talented and that the project failed halfway through, with me blaming both myself and everyone involved. So it was abandoned, and I went through about 3 or 4 months of depression and deep deep self loathing (I'll go back and check my blog archives to see if it relflects) and never quite fully recovered.
Well last week I got my computer up and running again, and yesterday, for kicks, I began loading the footage from the movie...actually with intentions to make a short, fake 'trailer' just so I could show a couple of scenes with some music I had picked out and then explain it was just 'coming soon....'
Before I knew it, I had 99% completed two scenes, and put together a rough opening with music that I was envisioning (b/c I had intended to make Andrew compose all-original music, based on a few song samples). Whenever I played it all back to see how it looked......I realized something: Geez, it really did SUCK!!
So, to set the record straight, I'm sorry to everyone that was invovled, and anyone who has seen any type of semi-finished product. Of course, I realize that now I only have myself to blame, and am slightly depressed now at even attempting it. I guess it was just such a blow b/c it was something that I wanted to do and showed myself that I couldn't realistically or even entertaingly do it.
---------------------
But on the better half..........
My brother reminded me of a project that I had mentioned and forgot:
After the success (!) of 'To Kill A Robocop,' I realized now I could do what we've actually talked about for years doing:
A "G.I. Joe" MOVIE!!
Now, I know there is an animated one that came out in the '80s (with the voice of Don Johnson as Flint!), but I'm talking about actually using our toys, our planes/helcoptors, and our Aircraft carrier. We can even have lasers for gunfire, a la the old cartoon.
But here's the most recent twist: a la 'To Kill A Robocop,' we would actually use the (almost) entire soundtrack of "Top Gun" and basically re-enact it scene for scene using action figures (except maybe take out all the love scenes, b/c I want to hear Berlin's 'Take My Breath Away' as LITTLE as possible!).
Of course, the most obvious reason for using 'Top Gun': I CAN'T WRITE DIALOGUE WORTH SHIT.
Besides, it would be funny. My brother really likes the "You're attitude's writin' checks your body can't cash!" bit, (who would be Sgt. Slaughter making numerous appearances) and even said I should do it written in the sky like "Surrender Dorothy."
Now THAT's entertainment.
Besides, Andrew's little brother would love it.
The reason it'll take a couple of months is b/c I either have to wait for my brother to move out of his room for the space, or until I move so I can set up everything (that way I can also recruit help).
Either way....I'll be eBaying for any extra props and Googleing to make sure it hasn't been done.
See you soon! Surrender Dorothy!
