So, I just finished watching the first [ever] two episodes of 'Satruday Night Live', or, as it was called: 'NBC's Saturday Night'.
Boy, were things really really different. The first episode 'starred' George Carlin, and basically he did a few minutes of stand-up, there was a musical guest, more stand-up, another musical guest, a 30-second skit, a fake commercial, more stand-up, the other 2 musical guests, and pretty much the end. Weird.
The second episode starred Paul Simon, and I counted no skits, and maybe 2 fake commercials. The rest was Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Newman, and some other lady for the entire hour.
Now, before you stop reading.....I'm actually not complaining. It was weird growing up with endless skits, only two songs by one musical guest, and a movie star host...and then watching how it started.
BUT I tell you what......all the music was GREAT, and it was basically no bullshit. Not funny like the late 80s, and definitely not horrible like it is now.
Just different. Oh well, still like 20 more episodes to go.....I'll see how it evolves.
